Shawinigan

Welcome to the Pathways to Education community page for Shawinigan!

About the Shawinigan Community

Shawinigan is a city located on the Saint-Maurice River in the Mauricie area of Quebec and has a population of 50,060. The community is small; however, economic diversification is under way and on the rise. The Pathways to Education Program™ is located 163 km northeast of Montreal and is one of the most impoverished areas of Quebec.

Recognizing the common goal of combating school dropout rates and poverty, De l’Énergie School Board and the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi of Shawinigan formed a partnership with Pathways to Education Canada in 2012, in order to implement its recognized model. By doing so, Shawinigan has become the second community in Quebec to offer the Pathways program. All agencies and local government representatives including the Mayor of Shawinigan, the Chamber of Commerce and Health and Social Services officials agree Shawinigan needed such a program and all are working in full support of the Pathways’ program implementation.
