Development Writer, Pathways to Education Canada

Its award-winning program is creating positive social change by supporting youth living in low-income communities to overcome barriers to education, graduate from high school, and build the foundation for a successful future. The Opportunity

As a critical member of the Resource Development team, you will be responsible for the creation of proposals and reports to key funders. Using approved content and key information from subject matter experts, creating the right story arc, and developing compelling proposals and reports on deadline will be the focus of this creative writer. Working with the Communications team, the Development Writer will also support the creation of standard templates that can be used for a variety of development initiatives.

As the successful candidate, you will work simultaneously on a variety of projects with tight deadlines. You enjoy collaborating in a team environment, possess excellent organizational and project management skills, and have a clear understanding of how strong content can help to further the mission of an organization like Pathways.

What You’ll Do

  • Write compelling grants, proposals, and reports that support the organization’s fundraising goals.
  • Identify and schedule proposal writing requirements across the RD team.
  • Coordinate proposals and grants to successful completion.
  • Identify content that will be required for future reporting purposes to the appropriate teams (research, programs, communications, finance, technology).
  • Support the creation of proposal and report templates for use in development initiatives.
  • Work with external translators for French content as required.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of related fundraising writing experience
  • A post-secondary accreditation in writing, communications, journalism, or related field
  • Strong inquiry skills to understand fundraising strategy and audience to support the collection of information and positioning for reports and proposals
  • Superior research and collaboration skills
  • Mastery of language, impeccable spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and the ability to write persuasively
  • Strong storytelling ability that strengthens profile and brand
  • Highly adaptable and thrive in a complex, collaborative environment
  • Interest in working in a non-profit environment focused on youth, education, and employment readiness
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies is an asset.
  • Bilingual (French/English) an asset
