Prom dress success — Pathways to Education helps students dress in style

November 14, 2016

"A Spryfield organization is collecting prom and formal wear to help bring the magic of prom night to local students facing financial barriers.

Pathways to Education, a program of Connections, supports students from Grades 9 through 12, to help them graduate high school. With financial aid, tutoring, student advocacy and mentoring, the program helps upwards of 70 students a year.

A few years ago discussions began around the cost of prom, and how it’s an important part of celebrating graduation. The prom dress event was born from this discussion, and now heading towards its fourth year, the event has been a resounding success.

Sarah Bray, volunteer and alumni co-ordinator with Pathways to Education, says the event became so successful they opened it up to students outside their program, so kids from all over Nova Scotia can take part in prom.

Donations can be dropped off at the Pathways to Education office at 531 Herring Cove Rd., Mondays to Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., or on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 902-477-0964."
