The Opportunity

As the Director of Human Resources at Pathways to Education, you will play a crucial role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and in close collaboration with leadership, department leads, and the Board of Directors, you will lead the development and implementation of HR strategies and initiatives that support our mission and values. From talent acquisition to performance management, you will oversee all aspects of human resources, ensuring that our policies and practices reflect best practices and comply with relevant legislation. By fostering a high-performance culture and nurturing talent, you will help us build a team of passionate professionals dedicated to making a difference in the lives of young people.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the development of annual and strategic organizational plans and budgets.
  • Develop annual and long-range HR strategies and business plans, including budgets and metrics.
  • Oversee the implementation of HR strategy and plans, reporting progress/risks to the Executive Team and Board as required.
  • Provide guidance to department heads and staff in the development of objectives aligned with organizational plans.
  • Identify and elevate scenarios of potential risk to the COO/CEO and HR-EDI Committee, recommending proactive or remedial actions and overseeing resolution.
  • Ensure HR policies and practices are compliant with relevant legislation and reflective of organizational requirements and culture.
  • Guide senior staff in the execution of HR practices and policies, and appropriate resolution of HR-related conflict with potential for legal or reputational implications.
  • Develop and oversee an organizational multi-year Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) plan, ensuring all policies and practices support an equitable and inclusive workplace.
  • Lead the design of Pathways’ total rewards package balancing the goals of employee acquisition/retention with financial sustainability.
  • Create the talent acquisition strategy for Pathways Canada, ensuring recruitment, selection, and onboarding policies and processes are effective and aligned with organizational culture.
  • Lead the design of a performance management approach that drives high performance and individual development.
  • Develop a multi-year Learning Framework that advances the delivery of key organizational objectives.
  • Manage and oversee a team of professionals within the team, ensuring efficient workflow and achievement of departmental objectives, while fostering their professional growth and development.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years’ experience in human resources or related role with experience across a broad range of HR activities. NFP industry experience is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education or training in business, HR, organizational development, or related area; CHRP or CHRL designation would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated strategic business sense, with experience translating broad organizational strategies and requirements into integrated HR strategies, plans, and budgets.
  • In-depth knowledge of the strategic and risk implications related to employment legislation, human rights, policies, and legal aspects of HR.
  • Effective negotiating/influencing skills related to various aspects of work including contracts, budget allocation, strategies, and risk-mitigation.
  • Excellent communication skills. Able to lead and influence with empathy, diplomacy, and professionalism. Handles confidential information and discussions with a mature and sensitive approach.
  • Proven experience coaching and providing positive leadership to high-performing direct reports and developing a positive team culture.
  • Bilingual English/French is an asset.
